Genre helps, but it does not tell me everything about a book.

When I read a manuscript, I’m looking for what is already working and where the writing needs more care. Sometimes that means tightening the tension in a mystery/thriller. Sometimes it means helping a fantasy or sci-fi world feel easier to follow. Sometimes it means protecting the voice in a quiet contemporary story, YA novel, memoir, self-help book, etc.

I don’t want to smooth a manuscript so much that it sounds like anyone could have written it. I look at the story/prose closely — the pacing, clarity, structure, emotion, dialogue, small details, and the places where a reader might lose trust or drift away.

The goal is simple: make the writing clearer and stronger without taking away the author’s voice.
